Summary of GIS
Geographic Information Systems, or GIS, is a tool to assist in the storage, analysis, and presentation of spatial data. GIS is comprised of systems (such as software and computers), spatial data, and users. GIS Provides an organization or individual the ability to quickly query, relate and analyze data to generate useful information, assisting in the decision making process.
Coquille Tribal GIS
The Coquille Indian Tribe uses GIS in support of land management, planning, demographics, and natural resources. GIS helps save time and resources by answering questions visually and spatially.
Summary of Recent Activities
Map production has been a major part of ongoing GIS Program activities. Maps have been produced as needed for Tribal staff.
The GIS Program completed the Satellite Imagery Project. The imagery provides the Tribe not only with an excellent background layer for maps, but also contains multi-spectral data that can be extracted and analyzed.
GIS Program staff has been working with the Tribal Police Chief to start a coordinated emergency response and planning effort. Carey Palm has taken a lead role in this process. GIS technology is well suited for this type of project.
The GIS Program worked with the accounting department to acquire a new plotter. The new plotter has proven to be an excellent investment.
The GIS Program will continue to pursue activities to ensure that the GIS can meet the challenges of the future. The GIS Program will continue to produce maps, manage and organize data, and coordinate the use of the GIS.
