Project Overview
The Coquille Indian Tribe invites proposals from Tribal artists to create two
interconnected deliverables that visually interpret the Living Framework—a strategic
structure rooted in Coquille values and vision.
Deliverables:
- A traditional art piece suitable for display in Tribal meeting spaces
- A digital logo derived from the artwork, adaptable for use in campaigns,
presentations, and communications
This project is intended to honor the depth of our cultural teachings while offering a
visual anchor for ongoing Tribal initiatives.
Artistic Direction
We are seeking a painterly, traditional medium look—such as acrylic, watercolor, ink, or
mixed media—rather than vectorized line art. The final piece should feel rooted,
textured, and reflective of Indigenous visual storytelling.
Artists are encouraged to interpret the Living Framework through their own creative
lens, using Coquille symbolism and narrative depth. The provided inspiration materials
are references—not templates. Originality, cultural resonance, and emotional clarity
are key.
Design Concept
The primary image should center around the Ko-Kwel Plankhouse, symbolizing cultural
foundation and community. Surrounding elements include:
- Rivers labeled Economic Well-being and Communications
- Trees representing Strategic Pillars (e.g., Sovereignty, Housing, Education)
- Mountains/Sky holding Ko-Kwel Aspirations
- Ko-Kwel Teachings integrated as stars, sunbeams, or smoke
- Basketry/Rope motifs symbolizing interconnectedness
- Color palette includes earth tones and traditional Coquille colors:
- #f2c148 yellow
- #718cc3 blue
- #d85a24 salmon
- #d7d0be beige
- #51652a green
- #7b1104 burgundy
- #161819 charcoal
Logo Concept: Coquille Tribal Canoe Toward the Sun
The logo should depict a Coquille Tribal canoe with members rowing together toward
the sun, symbolizing unity, shared purpose, and movement toward the life and
teachings of the Tribe.
Logo Design Elements:
- Coquille Tribal canoe with Tribal members rowing in unison
- Sun on the horizon representing life and teachings
- Flowing water connecting to the rivers in the main illustration
- Traditional Coquille artistic style and color palette
Logo Requirements:
- Scalable for print and digital use
- Color and black/white versions
- Provided in vector (.AI, .EPS) and high-resolution raster (.PNG, .JPG) formats
- Circle orientation preferred, square format acceptable
Cultural Stewardship
The selected artist will collaborate with the Creative Content Manager and/or Culture
Director to ensure:
- Symbolic accuracy
- Cultural integrity
- Alignment with Coquille values and teachings
- If textual elements (e.g., Ko-Kwel Teachings) are incorporated into the artwork, final
copy will be provided collaboratively.
